The following Resolution was introduced by Casella and seconded by Councilman Phillips.
WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects individuals across
all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, impacting communication, behavior, and social
interaction; and
WHEREAS, individuals with autism contribute greatly to the strength, diversity, and vibrancy of our
community, and deserve to be recognized, respected, and supported; and
WHEREAS, increasing awareness and understanding of autism fosters acceptance, inclusion, and
meaningful opportunities for individuals with autism to live, work, and thrive in our community; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Wappinger is committed to promoting equity, dignity, and inclusion for all
residents, including those on the autism spectrum and their families; and
WHEREAS, April is recognized nationwide as Autism Acceptance Month, a time to move beyond
awareness toward genuine acceptance, inclusion, and appreciation of neurodiversity; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the unique talents and perspectives of individuals with autism,
while also supporting efforts to improve access to education, employment, and community engagement
opportunities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, do hereby proclaim
the month of April as Autism Acceptance Month in the Town of Wappinger; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all residents are encouraged to participate in activities and initiatives
that promote acceptance, understanding, and inclusion of individuals with autism; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town of Wappinger reaffirms its commitment to fostering a
welcoming and supportive community where individuals of all abilities are valued and empowered to
succeed.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
