Local Law Amending Chapter 230 "Vehicles And Traffic" Of The Town Code Of The Town Of Wappinger To Further Regulate Overnight Parking Of Commercial Vehicles On Town Roads SECTION 1. LEGISLATIVE INTENT AND PURPOSE The Town Board finds that the overnight parking of heavy commercial vehicles on Town roads within residential areas adversely affects neighborhood character, public safety, traffic visibility, emergency access, roadway maintenance, and the quiet enjoyment of residential properties. Tow truck vehicles, by their size, weight, equipment configuration, and commercial function, create visual impacts and potential safety hazards when stored on public roadways overnight. The purpose of this Local Law is to clarify and strengthen existing regulations by expressly prohibiting the overnight parking of tow truck vehicles on Town roads in residential zoning districts, while maintaining reasonable exemptions for emergency and necessary public service activities. SECTION 2. AUTHORITY This Local Law is adopted pursuant to the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York and the Town Law of the State of New York, which authorize the Town to enact zoning and traffic -related regulations for the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of its residents.
