2025-1992025-199 Resolution Declaring November As Native American Heritage Month In The Town Of Wappinger At a Regular Meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, New York, held at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, New York, on November 10, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Joseph D. WHEREAS, the month of November is recognized nationally as Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and histories of Native American peoples and to acknowledge their many contributions to our nation and communities; and WHEREAS, the Town of Wappinger recognizes that the lands we live on today were once home to the Wappinger People, from whom our Town derives its name, and who were part of the greater Algonquian -speaking nations that inhabited this region; and WHEREAS, it is important to reflect on the historical significance of the Wappinger People and all Native American communities, whose stewardship of the land and deep cultural heritage continue to shape our understanding of sustainability, community, and respect for nature; and WHEREAS, the Town of Wappinger is committed to fostering understanding, appreciation, and respect for the traditions and contributions of Native Americans, and to promoting education and awareness of their enduring legacy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger hereby proclaims November as Native American Heritage Month in the Town of Wappinger; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Board encourages all residents, schools, and community organizations to take time during this month to learn about, celebrate, and honor the history, culture, and continuing contributions of Native American peoples - especially the Wappinger People whose name and heritage are forever intertwined with our Town's identity.
