Resolution Recognizing September 2025 As Suicide Prevention Month In The Town Of Wappinger

New York, on September 22, 2025.

The following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Phillips and seconded by Casella.
WHEREAS, suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, affecting individuals of all ages,
backgrounds, and communities; and
WHEREAS, every life lost to suicide represents someone's family member, friend, neighbor, or colleague,
and the impact of these tragedies is felt deeply within the Town of Wappinger and beyond; and
WHEREAS, raising awareness about suicide prevention, increasing access to mental health resources,
and fostering a culture of support and understanding can save lives; and
WHEREAS, national and local organizations, including community groups, schools, healthcare providers,
and faith -based institutions, are dedicated to promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and providing
education and support for those at risk; and
WHEREAS, September is recognized throughout the United States as Suicide Prevention Month, a time to
share resources, encourage hope, and remind all residents that help is available and recovery is
possible; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Wappinger is committed to supporting initiatives that promote mental health,
encourage open dialogue, and connect individuals and families with life-saving services; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Wappinger does hereby
proclaim September 2025 as Suicide Prevention Month in the Town of Wappinger, and calls upon all
residents to join in promoting awareness, compassion, and understanding, and to work together toward
a community where every life is valued, supported, and given hope.
The foregoing was put to a vote which resulted as follows:
